By New Year

By New Year

By New Light

By flickering candle

By streetlit bright

From barside seat

In midnight cheer

Feeling far

From friends so dear

A night maligned

For failing hopes

For failing attempts

Of all years wrote

Raise up your flute

And shout once more

‘I'll try again’
